49ers hosting CB Marshon Lattimore for official visit

The three most likely options at No. 2 seem to be cornerback, safety, or defensive line.

The San Francisco 49ers have a big decision to make with the No. 2 pick, and on Wednesday, one of their options will be in town for an official visit. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport tweeted that Ohio State cornerback Marshon Lattimore is visiting the 49ers. Rapoport said that Lattimore has visits set up with the top five teams in the draft.

The 49ers have been regularly connected to defensive lineman Solomon Thomas, but the secondary is an area they could find impact players as well. Safeties Malik Hooker and Jamal Adams are options, as is Lattimore. The 49ers need to find the best talent they can, but their plans with Jimmie Ward might dictate safety vs. cornerback.

If they think Lattimore can be a No. 1 shutdown cornerback, then maybe none of it matters. The 49ers have some intriguing talent at cornerback, but they lack a lockdown option. Jimmie Ward showed some things last year, and Rashard Robinson is an intriguing talent, but in a league where passing offenses are growing, you cannot have enough cornerbacks.

On the other hand, if they think Malik Hooker can be a great center-field option, maybe they decide he’s worth it on the back-end, and they go with Ward, Robinson, Brock, and the rest of their cornerbacks. Every option other than Myles Garrett is at their disposal.
