The San Francisco 49ers made a pair of transactions on Friday, and one made some waves. The team signed linebacker Jayson DiManche to a one-year deal, but then shook things up when they released cornerback Tramaine Brock. The release came shortly after Brock was released from jail following an arrest for suspicion of felony domestic violence.
The two moves leave the 49ers with 72 players. Entering Friday, they were listed as having $71,059,752 in cap space. DiManche played one game last year before being released, so he likely did not receive much more than a league minimum deal. That would drop the 49ers into the $70 million range.
The decision to release Brock clears $3,550,000 in cap space, and leaves the team with $750,000 in dead money. This was the last year of Brock’s contract, so there is no giving his release a June 1 designation. This moves the 49ers cap space back up to around $74 million.
