The 2017 NFL Draft starts in just under three weeks, and in fact, three weeks from today, it will be a wrap, and we’ll already know quite a few of the San Francisco 49ers undrafted free agent signings.
In the meantime, the Niners Nation 2017 NFL mock draft database is chugging along. We’re up to 38 mock drafts lists, and the consensus on a 49ers pick is increasing. With this latest update, 26 of the 38 mock drafts are selecting Stanford defensive end Solomon Thomas with the No. 2 overall pick.
I’m curious to see if the release of cornerback Tramaine Brock results in any shake-up for some mock drafts. I don’t think it should, but for national media, hearing that a starting cornerback was released might influence them. Right now, three of our mock drafts have cornerback Marshon Lattimore going to the 49ers. He is the second highest player selection.
If the 49ers are interested in a cornerback, I think they would be whether or not Brock had remained on the team. He was entering the final year of his contract, and while solid, was not a lock-down guy the team would look to build around.
That being said, national media can be influenced by events like this. We’ll see how the coming week goes and revisit the database next weekend to see how many have changed in any way.
