As of yesterday, the Free Agency proper period came to a close, meaning free agents signed by teams no longer factored into the 2018 compensatory selection equation. By this point in the offseason, most remaining free agents were vet minimum guys anyway, but there were a few signings, as was expected.
One of the stories, which is sure to make some waves, was the signing of QB Blaine Gabbert by the Arizona Cardinals. Considering the newsworthy QB corps of the 2016 49ers, these players were always going to be linked in the media. Expect a resurgence in coverage, complete with a renewed upholding of the phrase “blackballed”.
Other than Glaine Babbert, Andrew Tiller found a new job, as did K.D. Cannon. The latter holds no real significance, other than transferring a 45k guarantee from the 49ers to the Jets. With something near 100 roster moves already made by the new 49ers brass, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw many, many more as veterans and rookies alike begin dropping from other teams.
Onto the links.
