Golden Nuggets: Bobby Turner kept weekly tabs on Joe Williams leading up to the draft.

San Francisco 49ers links for Friday May 12, 2017

I have been a big Joe Williams fan for a while. I love to watch him carve up defenses so it isn’t any wonder that a story about him written by Chris Biderman caught my eye. Bobby Turner, perhaps the most respected running backs coach in the NFL, kept tabs on Williams like a family member before the draft.

“Whew. He was like my uncle,” Williams said of his new position coach. “We spoke at least once or twice every week . . . I’d always make sure to hit him right back just to show support and how much I appreciate him doing that.”

That kind of attention is something to take notice of. Was Joe Williams really Bobby Turner’s draft crush and he was adamant enough about him to finally catch Shanahan’s ear or was he told to do so by Shanahan? Since he wasn’t even on the 49ers draft board, I would guess he was one of Bobby Turner’s draft crushes. I would say that is a pretty impressive endorsement. It should be interesting to see what Bobby Turner can do with him.

I have included a link to the complete story below.
