It looks like the new regime of John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan are not done rearranging their roster. Former Buffalo Bills Pro Bowler Jairus Byrd worked out with the 49ers on Tuesday according to Adam Schefter and he could be signed to add depth to their safety spot. If signed, he would compete with Eric Reid, Jaquiski Tartt, and Jimmie Ward. Ward is currently listed as a safety, but he could move back into the cornerback role if needed.

Byrd has been a good safety and has been to 3 Pro Bowl appearances, but he’s had trouble staying healthy recently. He most recently played with the New Orleans Saints and missed a total of 15 games in 2 season. The 49ers could take a chance on Byrd and if he stays healthy, he could help the defense. He could take the free safety spot and Ward could move back to corner. Byrd was the only name given in Schefter’s report, but Adam reported that a group of defensive backs were also working out for the 49ers.
