The rookie class has arrived in Santa Clara

It was arrival day in Santa Clara for the rookies and about 50 other players who are there on a try out basis

Thursday was a day of paper work and physicals for several players who were seeing 49ers headquarters and possibly California for the first time. For others, like Utah’s RB Joe Williams and OLB Pita Taumoepenu, it’s a familiar venue after playing in the Foster Farms Bowl at Levi’s Stadium.

Several of the players met the local media for the first time and shared their experience of being drafted by the 49ers. The draftees and undrafted free agents will be joined by approximately 50 players that are at the facility on a try out basis including a handful of veteran players.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan explained in his KNBR interview that these larger tryouts have unearthed diamonds in the rough like Taylor Gabriel as well as giving the rookies and UDFAs a chance to get some work in.

We will have more detailed pieces on the players that met with the media Thursday:

  • TE Cole Hikutini
  • CB Ahkello Witherspoon
  • TE George Kittle
  • QB C.J. Beathard
  • RB Joe Williams

We will also have a full roster of the players attending tryouts as it is available. The practice field will look like a normal practice with the 28 draftees and UDFAs and the 50 others trying out.
