NFL: New England Patriots at San Francisco 49ers

The roster moves are coming quickly for the 49ers. Safety Chanceller James, receiver BJ Johnson III, and OT Richard Levy participated in last week’s rookie minicamp after receiving an invitation on a tryout basis. They did enough in their tryout to warrant being signed to the 90 man roster. To make room on the roster, running back DuJuan Harris, WR KD Cannon, and OL Bret Treadway were released.

GM John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have added 50 of the 90 players on the 49ers roster since their hiring. They are working quickly to find players that Kyle can utilize. One player that Kyle wanted was rookie RB Joe Williams. He is touted as a potential breakout star and he will likely be a big part of the offense along with Carlos Hyde. Running back went through a roster shakeup with moves this offseason including the release of Trent Baalke draft pick Mike Davis along with the release DuJuan Harris. The team also signed veterans Tim Hightower and Kapri Bibbs in the offseason to add depth.

One player who is still on the team, but was rumored to be a possible cut candidate is Aaron Lynch. He reportedly showed up to workouts overweight, which is not the best look when there’s a new coaching staff. But the 49ers are expected to keep Aaron because he has been productive and he’s still only 24 years old. He will need to prove himself this offseason or he could still be gone before the regular season. The defensive staff will try to work with Aaron since he is currently one of their better pass rushing options.
