Golden Nuggets: Elvis Dumervil good for 49ers’ young linemen

Sunday, June 11, 2017 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet.

Good morning everyone. Since the last time I did the Golden Nuggets, the San Francisco 49ers signed Elvis Dumervil. It’s an interesting signing and one that surprised me for a number of reasons. The biggest reason, of course, is that the 49ers have already invested so much in the guys who need to get after quarterbacks.

I have to wonder if they aren’t completely happy with what they’ve seen. I also wonder if the Dumervil signing is as much about what he can do at this point in his career on the field and what he can do as a veteran presence in the locker room. There are some awfully young, incredibly gifted players who could learn a whole lot from someone like Dumervil.

To me, that’s where this signing has value. I can’t assume that Dumervil will look like his old self after that big Achilles injury and this late in his career. But it’s a move with little downside at the very least. Good signing.
