The 49ers will end their offseason workouts with a minicamp on Tuesday and Wednesday. A NFL rule will reportedly keep rookie Solomon Thomas from participating in minicamp. There was hope he would be able to practice on Wednesday, but his 1st look will not happen until training camp in late July, according to Eric Branch. He has been training with NFL veteran DeMarcus Ware in the meantime.

Even though he will get a late start due to NFL rules, Solomon will likely be a big part of this 49ers defense. He will most likely start training with the reserves at training camp and as he progresses, he will get some reps with the starters. Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh has mentioned he will rotate the defensive line. This will keep the line fresh and players like Solomon will need to take advantage of their reps when given the chance.

Since Solomon will not get a chance at minicamp, the eyes will be on new pickup Elvis Dumervil. If he can come back from his injury and get to the level he’s used to, he could be the best pass rusher on the 49ers. Their pass rushing was lacking last season and he could be a big boost to that unit.
