A few weeks ago, I came across a new commercial featuring Russell Wilson that happened to also include the San Francisco 49ers. The commercial was for Wilson’s new Nike cleats, and it happened to feature the 49ers literally getting put on skates by his crazy moves. It was a creative commercial, albeit a slap in the face to the 49ers.
It turns out a couple members of the 49ers took notice of the commercial. On Monday evening, Jimmie Ward tweeted out Russell Wilson’s tweet, and included a set of eyeballs. Keith Reaser then responded to Ward with the thinking emoji.

The 49ers-Seahawks rivalry was intense for a couple years in 2012 and 2013, but things tapered off with the 49ers fall from glory. It will likely be some time before these two teams are back on equal footing, but the 49ers are making progress, and hopefully Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch can add a little pep back into this rivalry. It won’t be the pointed nature of Jim Harbaugh’s rivalries, but at least it could prove to be competitive once again.
