The biggest news of the day for 49ers fans was something that technically has nothing to do with the 49ers. Kirk Cousins, QB for the Washington Redskins, made news due to some perceived progress in his campaign to score a lucrative contract, or something. I can’t really tell what’s going on at this point - Dan Snyder loves giving out big contracts, Cousins wants a big contract, it should be a no-brainer, right? Anyway, the narrative has been all over the place, which isn’t really the ideal trajectory as a 49er fan hoping that Snyder McDonalds it (“drops the ball”), and a relatively young, above average QB falls into our lap.
Bottom line, Cousins is going to get PAID with a capital ...everything. Either it’s with Washington, or (probably) us. Here’s to hoping it’s the latter.
Otherwise, Ahkello Witherspoon got a pair of tepid, albeit cautiously optimistic, mentions. He was identified by two beat writers as a newcomer who might produce early. Of course, the song remains the same - long corner, strong coverage skills, good scheme fit, garbage physicality. I get the feeling that most of the beat guys who have started projecting Ahkello as the CB2 already are doing so more as an indictment of the rest of the CB corps. Especially you, Dontae Johnson.
Finally, you heard it here first, folks. Scotty Mc is going to try to catch on with either the 49ers or the Raiders in some capacity. Barrows’ Q&A Mailbag has a question asking for Barrows’ honest thoughts on the ex-GM - but the question is 100%, without-a-shadow-of-a-doubt, for real, from Mc’s wife. This is it, sports fans! He’s testing the market for “Operation Comeback”. Which, of course, means he’s bringing Cousins with him.
