The 2017 NFL Supplemental Draft took place today, and is officially a wrap. And in news that is not overly surprising, nobody was selected. Georgia Military College defensive end Tavares Bingham and Western New Mexico running back Marques Rodgers were the only two players eligible for the event, and all 32 NFL teams passed on them.
The San Francisco 49ers were likely aware of the event, although I am curious if John Lynch had to get a crash course on the details. We ran through them here.
I decided to give the 49ers an A for their performance in the supplemental draft. The defensive line is the deepest position, and they have some quality running backs competing for opportunities alongside Carlos Hyde. To sacrifice a 2018 draft pick for either position seemed unwise at this juncture.
How’s that for analysis about something that didn’t happen? I suppose I could give them an F for not taking a chance on either player given the need for more talent. I could also have given them a B, C, or D, and it would have held as much value as any regular draft grade.
With that in mind, how would you grade the 49ers performance in today’s supplemental draft? I strongly encourage you to offer a detailed reason for your grade in the comments.
