Bears sign Mitchell Trubisky to rookie contract

Solomon Thomas is one of six unsigned first round picks. Expect a deal next week.

The Chicago Bears agreed to terms on a four-year contract (and fifth-year option) with the No. 2 overall pick, quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. The Chicago Bears rookies reported to training camp today, so it makes sense that the deal got done.

With that signing, there are now six first round picks who remain unsigned. They are the following:

3. Solomon Thomas, DL, 49ers
5. Corey Davis, WR, Titans
6. Jamal Adams, S, Jets
10. Patrick Mahomes, QB, Chiefs
24. Gareon Conley, CB, Raiders
25. Jabrill Peppers, S, Browns

A year ago, the San Francisco 49ers were approaching training camp with Joshua Garnett still unsigned. He ended up signing when players reported, and missed no time.

This year, the 49ers are still working to sign Solomon Thomas to his rookie contract. He missed all but one day of the offseason workout program due to Stanford’s final exam schedule. My guess is he gets his deal done next week, potentially with an announcement on July 27, when the 49ers return for camp.

Any delays in getting a rookie deal done these days are usually related to either offset language in the contract, or deferring signing bonus payment. If there are issues like this, having Mitchell Trubisky at No. 2 and Leonard Fournette at No. 4 signed should simplify this to a certain extent. But, we’ll likely find out next week.
