Golden Nuggets: Previewing CB, TE, LB Camp Battles

A daily compilation of 49ers links from around the net. Thursday, July 20th, 2017 edition.

Yesterday was pretty busy in the world of articles about currently rostered players, and their upcoming chance to remain “currently rostered”. A wide variety, guides were written about the CB, TE, and LB corps by Ninerswire, ESPN, and the Sac Bee, respectively. Not the most exciting stuff, but all serve as pretty good primers with some added bonuses (individual battles, pluses and minuses in players’ chances, etc.) to re-acclimate before pads go on next week.

Cousins was a hot topic again, with a plethora of writers planting their flag in the “he’s a 49er in 2018” wagon. Although the “evidence” backing the prognostication is largely anecdotal (KS&KC in WAS together for two years, SF has tons of money), I’m content just keeping an eye on Cousins’ 2017 season - and if he lights it up, I sure hope these guys were right about SF being an attractive option during 2018’s free agency.

Alright folks, we’re at the seventh inning stretch of the offseason deadzone. Stuff like Afrogate will only be “news” for a little bit longer. On a side note, one of the things I’ll be interested in during the upcoming training camp will be the performance of TE Vance McDonald. With the publicly acknowledged trade talks from earlier in the offseason, I feel like he might be a candidate for being moved during camp, especially if he’s unable to come in and show that he deserves a spot. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the Ravens who come calling, having lost Pitta for the season (maybe career), and Ben Watson not a sure thing.
