The start of NFL training camp means we are getting close to the release date for the newest edition of Madden. Madden NFL 18 will be available on August 25, and as part of the lead up to the release date, EA Sports is offering up some details on player ratings.
On Wednesday, overall ratings were posted for the first round picks in this year’s draft. Edge rusher Myles Garrett topped the list with an 83 overall ranking. The biggest potential surprise has tight end O.J. Howard (19th overall pick) with the second highest overall ranking at 82. Other high risers are tight end David Njoku (29th pick, 9th highest overall rating) and cornerback Tre’Davious White (27th pick, 10th highest overall rating
The San Francisco 49ers have a pair of first round picks on their roster in defensive lineman Solomon Thomas and linebacker Reuben Foster. Thomas received a 79 overall rating, which was tied for sixth highest. Foster received a 76 overall rating, which was tied for 15th highest. It is not surprising to see Foster’s rating get a bump even though he slipped to near the bottom of the first round. I am curious what EA went with for Foster’s injury rating.
Of the 49ers remaining draft picks, Joe Williams and George Kittle seem like the early candidates for biggest jump in Madden rating. We won’t know their ratings for some time now, but they both have a shot to earn a significant role fairly early this season. Ahkello Witherspoon has a shot as well if he can claim the starting cornerback job opposite Rashard Robinson.
