Alright y’all, it’s game time shortly! The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs square off at 6 p.m. PT. An important reminder: NFL Network is airing the game, but because of the earlier Giants-Steelers game, NFL Network is not joining the 49ers game until 7 p.m. PT. It’s annoying, but something to keep in mind. If you miss the first hour and want to watch it later, it is being re-aired three times. Here’s a list of dates and times.
It’s been a whirlwind of an offseason for the San Francisco, but football is finally back! The team kicks off their 2017 preseason schedule on Friday, so it is once again time for our first nuts and bolts post of the new season. The 49ers travel to face the Kansas City Chiefs, with game time set for 6 p.m. PT.
It’s been quite the offseason for the 49ers. The team fired general manager Trent Baalke and head coach Chip Kelly. An extensive search resulted in a surprise hire of John Lynch as general manager. Kyle Shanahan was hired alongside, although the 49ers and fans had to wait through the Super Bowl for it to become official.
Since Lynch and Shanahan were installed in their roles, we have seen nothing short of a complete overhaul in the organization. Over half the 90-man roster consists of new players, but more importantly, we have seen a significant change in culture. After years of leaks, backstabbing, and generally unprofessional behavior, the organization appears to be on track to being on strong footing once again. It has only been a few months, and we have yet to see actual football games, but there is a reason for optimism.
The 49ers will be playing their starters about a quarter, and today marks the first chance to see just what the new offense and defense might start to look like. The team will likely keep things relatively simple in the preseason, but it will be nice just to see what the depth chart looks like. We won’t see exactly what Week 1 of the regular season will bring, but tonight will be a nice step in the right direction.
