Donavin Newsom released from hospital Thursday

Good news continues following Donavin Newsom’s Tuesday scare.

Good news arrived for the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday. The team announced that linebacker Donavin Newsom was released from Stanford Medical Center after taking a bad hit on Tuesday at practice.

Newsom and safety Chanceller James collided on a play, and Newsom was left lying on the ground. He was initially motionless according to reports, but by the time an ambulance arrived to take him to the hospital, he had sensation in his hands and some movement in his feet. At the hospital, doctors diagnosed him with a concussion, but thankfully no cervical fracture.

Newsom will go through the concussion protocol, after which he will be able to rejoin the team. General manager John Lynch tweeted they are hopeful to have Newsom back soon, but his timeline depends on the severity of his concussion symptoms.

A concussion is never good, but avoiding a bigger injury is certainly a reason to give thanks!
