George Kittle, Brock Coyle on 49ers list of players who will not play vs. the Chiefs

The 49ers will be without six players in their preseason opener.

The San Francisco 49ers announced a list of players who will not play on Friday evening against the Kansas City Chiefs. The list includes cornerback Jimmie Ward (hamstring, PUP), cornerback Dontae Johnson (concussion), linebacker Donavin Newsom (concussion), linebacker Brock Coyle (rib), guard Joshua Garnett (knee) and tight end George Kittle (hamstring).

Kittle and Coyle are the only two additions to earlier news of three players not traveling with the team. Kittle and Coyle both traveled to Kansas City. Kittle is expected to take part in pre-game warmups, but will not play. That is a good sign for his hamstring injury, and hopefully he can play next week.

Teams do not have to release an official inactive list for preseason games, but each week they will let us know who is definitely not playing. The rest of the roster is expected to play, although most of the starters will only get a series or two of work.
