The San Francisco 49ers made a pair of roster moves on Wednesday. The team announced they have waived/injured linebacker Jayson DiManche, and they are placing Donavin Newsom on injured reserve.
General manager John Lynch announced the Newsom news during his Wednesday afternoon press conference. The DiManche is a bit unexpected. DiManche has been on the injury report with a hamstring injury, but there had been no indication of its severity.
The 49ers signed DiManche on April 7, and then released him May 2. They re-signed him on August 5. If he clears waivers, as would be expected, he would revert to the 49ers injured reserve list. The team could then either keep him there all season, or figure out an injury settlement depending on the severity of his injury.
These moves clear two roster spots if the 49ers want to add any players. One possibility is Jimmie Ward gets activated off the PUP list.
