Colts could be missing their starting center vs. 49ers in Week 5

The expected plan will keep him out the first two months.

The San Francisco 49ers travel to face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5, and there is a decent chance the Colts will be without their starting center. Adam Schefter is reporting that Ryan Kelly is scheduled to undergo surgery on a bone defect in his foot. The injury is expected to sideline him 6-8 weeks.

The 49ers-Colts matchup is seven weeks from this coming Sunday, putting it right in the middle of that timeline. Ian Rapoport reported that the Colts are expected to place Kelly on injured reserve with plans to return him later in the year. If they use that move, I believe it guarantees he has to sit at least eight weeks. That would guarantee he does not play in Week 5.

The Colts offensive line has been a problem for much of Andrew Luck’s time there, and this is not going to help matters. They doesn’t seem to have much in the way of depth behind Kelly, which could mean they look to outside help. Former 49ers center Jeremy Zuttah remains on the market. He has been talking to the Baltimore Ravens about a reunion, but the Colts have also had conversations with him. A quick offer could make that happen.
