The 2017 regular season is just a few weeks away, and that means futures bets are arriving for a host of awards. Earlier this week, Bovada released their opening odds for NFL Coach of the Year. A lot of expected names sit at the top of the list, with Bill Belichick (Patriots), Jack Del Rio (Raiders), Mike McCarthy (Packers), Ron Rivera (Panthers), and Mike Tomlin (Steelers) sitting in the top five.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is near the bottom, but not at the very bottom. Shanahan is one of ten coaches installed at 33/1. That group is ahead of seven coaches installed at 50/1.
In looking through the list, we can also group the first year coaches in three areas. Anthony Lynn (Chargers) has the best odds of any first year head coach, at 16/1. Shanahan is joined by Doug Marrone (Jaguars), Sean McDermott (Bills), and Vance Joseph (Broncos) at 33/1. Sean McVay brings up the rear among new head coaches at 50/1.
