John Lynch: We expect Reuben Foster to play Saturday

Things seems to be progressing well with regard to Foster’s shoulder.

The San Francisco 49ers appear to not be concerned about Reuben Foster’s recent shoulder sprain. Kyle Shanahan said on Thursday that he expects Foster to play on Saturday, and on Friday, John Lynch reiterated that. In a KNBR interview, the 49ers GM said the team expects Foster to play on Friday.

Foster suffered what the team described as an AC joint sprain. NaVorro Bowman suffered a similar injury in practice and did not take part in team drills. Bowman described it as a stinger and said he has dealt with plenty of them in his career. He sees it as something that you play through.

Of course, given that this is the preseason, it is not surprise the coaching staff had both Foster and Bowman not take part in full contact team drills. Shanahan said Foster was upset that he wasn’t allowed in for full drills, but the 49ers head coach made it clear they are playing it safe.

The fact that he is expected to play this weekend is a good sign it really is a good indication that it really is just a minor thing. That being said, I still want to wait and see what Saturday brings, and if he ends up a last minute scratch. He needs reps to get a better handle on his starting WILL position, but that shoulder will remain a question mark until we see him playing regularly during the season.
