The Baltimore Ravens announced on Friday that they have signed center Jeremy Zuttah to a two-year contract. Zuttah was released by the San Francisco 49ers earlier this month when it became clear he was not going to beat out Daniel Kilgore for the starting job.
The 49ers had originally acquired Zuttah from the Ravens in a trade that saw the two teams swap sixth round picks. The 49ers gave up the second pick of the sixth round in exchange for the Ravens slot in the 14th spot of the sixth round. The Ravens ended up selecting defensive back Chuck Clark, while the 49ers selected defensive tackle D.J. Jones.
Here is a look at the picks between the Ravens and 49ers following the trade.
3. Mike Tyson, S, Cincinnati
4. Elijah McGuire, RB, Louisiana-Lafayette
5. Tanzel Smart, DT, Tulane
6. Sam Tevi, OT, Utah
7. Xavier Woods, S, Louisiana Tech
8. Alex Armah, FB, West Georgia
9. Jordan Evans, LB, Oklahoma
10. Vincent Taylor, DT, Oklahoma State
11. Tanner Vallejo, LB, Boise State
12. Al-Quadin Muhammad, DE, Miami (FL)
13. Jeremy Clark, CB, Michigan
When you get into the latter half of day three of the NFL Draft, there are a some diamonds in the rough to be had. Some players will become key cogs on special teams, and sometimes you’ll find a significant contributor. But you don’t go into it expecting big things.
Moving down 12 spots in the sixth round to acquire a potential starting center is a deal I think you pretty much always do. We won’t dump on the 49ers if one of these 12 players ends up turning into a star. But it’s still fun to consider the hypotheticals, particularly if one or more of these guys were on your list of late round draft crushes. Anybody?
