The 49ers had an off day on Tuesday after having 4 consecutive practices. The practices have been very competitive and there are feelings of optimism around the team. John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan have a roster full of players looking to compete for spots on the team.

The defensive front has a lot of eyes on them. 2015 1st round pick Arik Armstead is leaner than he has been in the past and is finally healthy. He is working at defensive end, which is a new position for him. He is looking to deliver on his tremendous potential and has performed well at training camp. The 2016 1st round pick DeForest Buckner is looking to take the next step in his development. He is aiming for 10 sacks this season. He worked out in Hawaii with the Seahawks Michael Bennett, who is an excellent pass rusher. Bennett believes Buckner has the ability to be the defensive player of the year and the 49ers would love nothing more than that to materialize on the field. Big things are expected of the 2 big defensive linemen this season.

Another player who showed up to camp ready was Aaron Lynch. Kyle and the coaching staff challenged Aaron before training camp to slim down and he is now around 30 pounds lighter. Entering the last year of his contract, this is a prove it year for Lynch. He missed part of last season due to suspension and injury. With all the competition for pass rushers on the team, Lynch is standing out at training camp. Kyle is giving him a chance to earn playing time and he seems ready to take advantage.
