Golden Nuggets: 49ers turnovers outnumbered only by their penalties

Sunday, August 20th, 2017 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet.

I didn’t watch Saturday’s game between the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos because I was covering a boxing event, but I did occasionally follow along on Twitter and I’ve since sat down and jumped through the game ... I’m honestly glad I missed most of it.

The 49ers were bad in so many ways, but most worryingly they were completely and utterly incapable of playing a game without a ton of penalties. That was also a problem in the first preseason game, and it’s something that Kyle Shanahan needs to figure out now, not later. They can’t go into the regular season with this hanging over them.

Also, not committing five turnovers would also be great, but I suppose we should worry about one thing at a time. The 49ers need to clean up their game before they can focus on things like actual progress, silver linings and winning games.
