49ers hope to have Jimmie Ward back on Wednesday

How soon till he is in the starting lineup?

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up open training camp last week, and enter a practice schedule that is a bit more like the regular season. The team will not practice Monday or Tuesday, have sessions Wednesday through Friday and a walkthrough on Saturday before facing the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Practice will be closed to the media.

When the team returns to practice on Wednesday, they will hopefully have free safety Jimmie Ward on hand. Head coach Kyle Shanahan chatted with the media Sunday evening, and he said the training staff will put him through workouts Monday and Tuesday. They will see how he responds to the workouts, and potentially activate him Wednesday.

If Ward is able to practice this week, it will be intriguing to see if he moves right into the starting lineup, or if he spends the week practicing behind Lorenzo Jerome. The 49ers have two preseason games left, and they will be within four days of each other thanks to the short week before the final game. When do they get Ward into the starting lineup?
