49ers work out free agent DE Tyson Jackson

It seems like he could be a camp body.

The San Francisco 49ers are continuing their search for roster depth. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport tweeted that the team is working out former Atlanta Falcons defensive end Tyson Jackson.

The Atlanta Falcons released Jackson in March after a disappointing 2016 season. He signed a five year, $25 million deal prior to the 2014 season, and surprise, surprise, he didn’t last the length of the deal.

I spoke briefly with a Falcons blogger, and she said at 6’4, 296 pounds, he was better suited as a 3-4 defensive end. The Falcons switched to a 4-3 under, which is similar to what the 49ers are implementing. I’m not sure what the 49ers plan is with him given the depth on the line. My guess is at his size, he’ll play some defensive tackle while DeForest Buckner continues to rehab his ankle injury. It seems like he would primarily a camp body as someone who knows what Robert Saleh is implementing.
