Dolphins could be looking to trade WR Jarvis Landry

The Dolphins receiver is the subject of a battery investigation, although his girlfriend has denied any physical harm.

The San Francisco 49ers seem to have a fairly settled wide receiver depth chart, but with plenty of room to improve trades or roster cuts could provide some intriguing options. The Miami Dolphins might be one such team, and they could be looking to move a big name. Former NFL executive Mike Lombardi is reporting the Dolphins, “will listen to offers on [wide receiver] Jarvis Landry and seriously listen.”

Landry is entering the final season of his rookie contract, and there have reportedly been no significant contract talks. Landry is coming off back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons, with 204 receptions over the course of those two seasons. The Dolphins might work DeVante Parker into the offense more, but it’s still interesting that they might be prepared to let a strong receiver walk. They could choose to franchise him next season, but the link above discusses the cap problems they could face following the signing of Jay Cutler.

From a football talent standpoint, Landry could be a big upgrade for the 49ers wide receivers. They have some interesting options, but Pierre Garçon is the only one with a proven track record.

It could also go beyond just football issues. Landry is currently being investigated by the Broward County State Attorney’s office on a battery charge related to an alleged incident with his then girlfriend. His girlfriend issued a statement that they had been involved in a vocal disagreement that resulted in someone calling 911. She said he never physically harmed her.
