Ahmad Brooks making free agent visit to Green Bay Packers

The ex-49ers linebacker is already drawing interest.

The San Francisco 49ers cut Ahmad Brooks last week, and with the third full preseason weekend a wrap, he is beginning his free agent search. NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport tweeted that Brooks will visit the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday. Rapoport is hearing the Denver Broncos also have interest.

The 49ers released Brooks after deciding to move Eli Harold into the starting lineup. John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan subsequently said they wanted to give Brooks time to land a new roster spot sooner rather than later. It seems like a safe bet he’ll be on a 53-man roster for Week 1.

It could get a little awkward when that does happen. As noted by Matt Barrows, Brooks has a court hearing on September 29 to set a trial date for a sexual battery case. The case revolves around a 2014 incident at Ray McDonald’s house that remains unresolved. Brooks was charged in August 2015 with misdemeanor sexual battery.
