49ers release Sean Porter, is anyone else coming before Chargers game?

The 49ers have made a roster move prior to their final preseason game against the Chargers.

The San Francisco 49ers released linebacker Sean Porter, the team announced on Tuesday. Porter joined the team just a couple weeks ago on Aug. 9 and was always going to be a camp body. He previously spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016 and saw action in two regular season games.

On Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan said that the team would release any roster bubble players who were not expected to play in the fourth preseason game. It’s unlikely Porter will land with another team before they play a fourth preseason game, however.

Either way, it’s a good policy for the 49ers to have. Roster cuts are never easy for anybody involved, especially players like Porter who have only an outside chance to make it with an NFL team this year. He’s primarily played special teams in his four-year NFL career, and if he finds a new team, he’d be filling that role.

What with Shanahan saying the 49ers will release non-playing bubble players before Thursday, do you think any more cuts are coming prior to the preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers?
