The San Francisco 49ers made an interesting decision on Thursday, deciding to start seventh round draft pick Adrian Colbert over UDFA Lorenzo Jerome. The team is not playing Jimmie Ward or Jaquiski Tartt.
Colbert has impressed early, forcing a turnover on the second drive of the game. Colbert had a big hit on the Chargers ball-carrier as he reached the second level, and the ball shot out in a hurry.

I would have expected to see Jerome starting at free safety, but this could bode well for him to some extent. The team might be pleased with what they’ve seen of him, and simply want to see some more work from Colbert as they make some of their final roster decisions. Colbert is firmly on the roster bubble, and this kind of big play coupled with his versatility could help him.
