The San Francisco 49ers invested a fifth round pick in Louisiana Tech wide receiver Trent Taylor, and through a week of training camp, he is off to a strong start. He has been hauling in catches left and right, and not just easy ones. He’s had some toe-tappers that veterans are more accustomed to. Given that he is just coming from the college level, where it only takes one foot in to make a catch, it’s pretty impressive stuff.
The 49ers tweeted out some video featuring a couple of his best plays. I imagine he has had some mistakes as well, so we won’t take everything from this, but praise has been pretty high for Taylor. He is competing behind Jeremy Kerley for the slot receiver role, and Bruce Ellington’s release opens up a significant opportunity as a punt returner.
We already knew he was pretty certain to make the roster. His performance thus far suggests he’ll have a chance to make a noticeable first year impact beyond just making the roster.
It's good @MattBarkley finds @Trent5Taylor for the score. #49ersCamp pic.twitter.com/uzBg29E5Vx
