The San Francisco 49ers finished up their third session of the week on the practice field before going in front of thousands of fans at Levi’s Stadium to end the week. The defense won this practice but the offense still made it’s presence known. Here are your top plays of the day:
Solomon Thomas sacks Matt Barkley
The first round lineman continues to impress getting past the offensive line to sack Barkley. Without live hitting, the play continued with a completed pass to Blake Bell who was being covered very closely by Lorenzo Jerome. If not for the “sack” it was an impressive throw and catch.
Dontae Johnson with a PBU
Johnson, who has been having a very good camp thus far, continued to make a case to start opposite of Rashard Robinson at corner. Hoyer took the snap, faked a hand off to Kapri Bibbs and threw the ball 15 yards to the left side where Trent Taylor was headed. Johnson got his long arms in between and swatted the ball down for a PBU.
D.J. Jones and Dekoda Watson combine for a sack
C.J. Beathard rolled out of the pocket and had his eyes on Taylor waiting for him to get free of Jerome’s coverage. He waited a little too long and Jones and Watson combined for a sack.
The defense continues to be a sack machine
Arik Armstead continued to have a good camp registering another sack as did Chris Jones. Rookie D.J. Jones keeps proving he was a steal in the draft registering a solo sack as well as the one listed above.
Prince Charles Iworah and Reuben Foster combine for a zinger
Barkley threw a dart to Matt Breida for what would have been a completion until Iworah came and delivered the hit of the practice. That loud sound of pads popping accompanied the ball jumping out and finding it’s way into the awaiting arms of Foster who is apparently an interception machine.
Rashard Robinson with a PBU
Beathard had his sights on Aldrick Robinson but before the wide receiver could get his hands on the ball, Rashard Robinson swatted the ball into the air. Vinnie Sunseri was near by and almost pulled it in for an interception.
K’Waun Williams gets a pick
The third year cornerback was part of the triple coverage on Aldrick Robinson when Barkley threw the ball in his direction. It was an attempt to thread the needle that went awry.
Trent Taylor with a juggling act
Taylor worked with the 1s a bit and Hoyer threw to him as he was being covered by Foster. The pass was accurate but Foster got his mitts on the ball and it popped up into the air. When it came down, Taylor still caught the ball for a completion.
Trent Taylor is a toe tapper
It’s been several days in a row where Trent Taylor has impressed everyone in attendance. Hoyer rolled out of the pocket and threw 20 yards towards the left sideline where Taylor was being covered by Will Redmond and Chanceller James. Taylor grabbed the ball just before getting both toes down in bounds.
The 49ers have an extended three hour practice in Levi’s stadium tomorrow. Tickets are still available for $5 on ticketmaster or at the stadium box office. Food and beverages will be complimentary!!
