After a whirlwind few days, Jay Cutler is set to join the Miami Dolphins. Multiple reports have Cutler signing a one-year, $10 million contract to join his former offensive coordinator, Adam Gase.
Ryan Tannehill suffered a knee injury in practice earlier this week, and there has been a lot of speculation about what might happen. He might need season-ending surgery, but the Dolphins have not confirmed any sort of decision. The signing of Cutler, however, suggests where they might be headed.
Cutler worked with Gase in Chicago, and reports all week had Gase pushing hard to figure something out. Earlier this weekend, there were reports Cutler was going to stick with his new broadcasting career, but something obviously changed. I’m guessing $10 million did the trick. Matt Moore has been getting first team reps since Tannehill went down, but you don’t pay Cutler $10 million to sit on the bench.
The Dolphins reportedly discussed Colin Kaepernick as an option, but will instead bring in Cutler to start. Given his history with Gase, it is not a surprising turn for this story.
