Anquan Boldin signing with the Buffalo Bills

The former 49ers wide receiver gets a chance to continue his climb up the record books.

Another veteran free agent is finding a home as the first week of preseason football gets underway. The Buffalo Bills are signing former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin to a one-year deal, according to FOX Sports NFL writer Peter Schrager.

Boldin joins an intriguing group of receivers for Tyrod Taylor. The team has uber-talented, but often injured Sammy Watkins, and spent a high second round pick on East Carolina’s Zay Jones. There is intriguing talent between the two of them, but plenty of question marks between Watkins’ health, and Jones’ inexperience.

Boldin gives Tyrod Taylor a heck of a safety blanket. Boldin had 67 receptions for 584 yards in Detroit last season. He had back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons with the 49ers in 2013 and 2014, so there is some concern about how much is left in the tank. But he could be a solid, stable option in Buffalo.

Boldin enters the season ranked No. 14 in NFL history with 13,779 receiving yards. He is 120 yards back of Cris Carter and 225 yards back of James Lofton on the all-time list. He ranked No. 9 all-time with 1,076 receptions. He is two back of Terrell Owens, and 18 back of Tim Brown on the all-time list.
