49ers injury report: Jaquiski Tartt, Brock Coyle return to practice in limited fashion

The 49ers got some good news for their defense.

The San Francisco 49ers released their latest pre-practice participation report, and there is a bit of good news. Eli Harold and Tim Hightower are both back and full participants. Safety Jaquiski Tartt and linebacker Brock Coyle are both listed as limited with their respective rib injuries. Tartt has been day-to-day for most of the past week, while Coyle has been listed as out with no indication of his return.

Harold suffered a concussion last week, but was back doing some conditioning work on Monday. He is competing for backup SAM work behind Ahmad Brooks. Hightower had a knee issue and illness that was sidelining him. He has gotten some first team work, and at the very least is emerging as a strong complementary option to Carlos Hyde.

Tartt was playing free safety after Jimmie Ward opened camp on the PUP list. When Tartt went down, Lorenzo Jerome took over a lot of the first team free safety snaps. Tartt will not take part in full workouts, but with two practices remaining before the team leaves for Kansas City, he might have a chance to get back in time to play on Friday.

Coyle was playing weak side linebacker next to Ray Ray Armstrong on the second team defense. Reuben Foster has since leap-frogged both of them following Malcolm Smith’s injury.

The team continues rotating veteran days off, this time for Staley. Trent Brown and John Theus could both get some left tackle snaps.
