The San Francisco 49ers released their latest pre-practice participation report, and there is some good news and bad news. The bad news is that cornerback Dontae Johnson is out with a concussion. The good news is linebacker Donavin Newsom, while out with a concussion, is “doing fine” and expected to be released from the hospital this afternoon, according to 49ers PR.
Johnson suffered the concussion on Tuesday, and this leaves his status for Friday’s preseason opener in doubt. He has to clear through the concussion protocol, and that usually takes several days at minimum. The team is scheduled to depart for Kansas City on Thursday. If Johnson does not play, Keith Reaser and Ahkello Witherspoon will likely split snaps opposite Rashard Robinson.
Here’s the full practice participation report.
