The San Francisco 49ers face the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday in their preseason opener, but the first full week of preseason action gets started on Wednesday. The PGA Championship is taking place in Charlotte this week, and so the Carolina Panthers got permission to bump the game up a day.
The Panthers will face the Houston Texans, with the game schedule for a 4:30 p.m. PT kickoff. The game will air on NFL Network, and marks the debut of two prominent rookies in Texans QB DeShaun Watson and Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey.
Cam Newton has been practicing, but will not play in this game. That means we get a whole lot of Derek Anderson and Joe Webb. Meanwhile, Watson is competing with Tom Savage for the starting nod in Houston. There have been strong reports about both players, but my guess is Watson eventually claims the job in the preseason.
Kickoff Time: 4:30 p.m CDT, Wednesday, August 9th.
TV Broadcast: NFL Network.
Online Streaming: Viewers in the United States can use the NFL Mobile app if they have a Verizon subscription. Anyone else can use the NFL Game Pass subscription service to watch the game.
