Fooch’s update: Updated roster cuts tracker

Well, the roughest part of the preseason is upon us. The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their schedule Thursday night, and roster cut weekend has arrived in the NFL. The San Francisco 49ers and all 31 other teams will be going from 90 to 53 players by Saturday afternoon. It used to be a cut from 90 to 75 on Tuesday, then 75 to 53 on Saturday. That changed this year, which means we will see over 1,100 players hitting the market Saturday afternoon. Teams will claim some of them, and another 320 will eventually end up on practice squads. You can find more cuts from other teams around the NFL at SB Nation.

The 49ers have to make all their cuts by Saturday, September 2, at 1 p.m. PT. The team has until then to make their cuts, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said Thursday evening that they would try and get most of their cuts sorted out on Friday. The team might not announce all of them until Saturday afternoon, but we will most certainly hear reports on some of the roster cuts before they are officially announced.

The 49ers will also be establishing a 10-man practice squad on Sunday at 10 a.m., as well as scouring the NFL waiver wire as other players are released over the weekend.
