It was a tough day of injuries on Sunday, but we also learned about an injury situation that does not appear to be getting resolved soon. The Indianapolis Colts activated quarterback Andrew Luck off the PUP list at the end of training camp, but he remains sidelined due to his offseason shoulder surgery.
NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that Luck still has not started practicing, and we might not see him in a game until sometime in October. Scott Tolzien started in his place on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, and was a complete disaster. Jacoby Brissett replaced him, but not before Tolzien threw a pair of pick-sixes and generally got nothing going.
The San Francisco 49ers travel to face the Colts in Week 5, on October 8. Until then, the Colts host the Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns, and travel to face the Seattle Seahawks. Chuck Pagano formally ruled out Andrew Luck for the Cardinals game, and given that it’s only Monday, that’s noteworthy in my mind.
Brissett looked decent in limited work last year for the New England Patriots after Jimmy Garoppolo got hurt, so we’ll see if he’s had enough time to pick up the playbook since joining the team a little over a week ago. And maybe we see him starting against the 49ers next month.
