The 49ers loss to the Carolina Panthers was not the only loss they sustained on Sunday. Rookie linebacker Reuben Foster was carted off the field in the 1st quarter with an injury that by the looks of it seemed serious. Luckily for the 49ers, Foster returned to the sidelines and tried his best to get back in the game, but he did not. Tests showed he has a high ankle sprain, which is better than the leg fracture many thought he could have had. He will likely be out a month or so.

Reuben was playing well in his 1st regular season NFL game. He played 11 total snaps and had 3 tackles. He made a great play on a pass from Cam Newton, which he nearly picked off for a touchdown. Ray-Ray Armstrong replaced Reuben after the injury and played fairly well. He will likely be the starter until Reuben is able to return, but the 49ers are also looking at options in free agency. The 49ers will be cautious with Reuben Foster’s injury. There is no reason to rush him back. They will make sure he is fully recovered before putting him in game action.

The 49ers #3 pick, Solomon Thomas, had a rough 1st game. He played in 19 snaps, but failed to pressure Cam Newton even once. He had 2 tackles, one for a loss. But the defense needs him to generate a pass rush. DeForest Buckner was the only lineman who got near Cam, so the pass rush failings are not on Solomon alone. The line missed Aaron Lynch and he should be back soon to help.
