The San Francisco 49ers have promoted cornerback Asa Jackson to the 53-man roster, the team announced on Saturday. To make room for Jackson, the team released 2014 fifth-round pick Keith Reaser, a fellow cornerback.
Jackson was also a fifth-round pick, back in 2012 with the Baltimore Ravens. He had a very strong fourth preseason game, leading many to guess that he might have earned his way onto the active roster. The player that he would have beaten out for the final spot would have been Reaser.
Reaser is the second Trent Baalke draftee to be waived this week after offensive tackle John Theus was let go. Jackson has appeared in 22 regular season games, with eight starts, 34 tackles and four passes defensed. Reaser has played in 29 games, registering 37 tackles, five passes defensed, two forced fumbles and four tackles on special teams.
Jackson will wear No. 30, according to the team. It will be interesting to see if he is active against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
