Good news for the San Francisco 49ers! Matt Maiocco is reporting that rookie linebacker Reuben Foster is no long wearing the walking boot he needed to help rehab his high ankle sprain. Maiocco spotted him walking around in the locker room without the boot, and appeared to be walking “very well.”
The boot is off for Ruben Foster, and he appears to be walking around very well.— Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoNBCS) September 19, 2017
Foster suffered a high ankle sprain in the 49ers Week 1 loss to the Carolina Panthers. He wanted to return, but the trainers kept him on the sideline. After the game, Foster said he would be returning “very, very, very soon.” A high ankle sprain rehab timeline can range from a couple weeks to over a month. Foster did not play in Week 2 and likely won’t be playing in Week 3. The 49ers then have ten days before they travel to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4.
I don’t know if we’ll see Foster back for the Cardinals game, or potentially the Colts the week after, but this seems like a very good sign that we will see him on the field sooner rather than later.
