NCAA Football: Poinsettia Bowl-Brigham Young vs Wyoming Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Today marks the first of many exciting and thrilling Saturdays of the 2017 college football season! Many of the AP Top 25 ranked teams will be playing today including the defending national champion, Clemson Tigers, and the game of the week featuring the Alabama Crimson Tide against the Florida State Seminoles in Atlanta, Georgia. The College Football season is like a roller coaster with so many twists and turns. Just when you think you have the Playoff teams figured out and penciled in, surprises and upsets seem to arise when you least expect it.

Today’s article will feature the games being played, as well as a spotlight on the top five quarterbacks in action on this thrilling opening Saturday. The quarterbacks being addressed in this article will all be draft eligible for the 2018 NFL Draft.

Top 5 Quarterbacks Featured

Sam Darnold - QB - USC vs. Western Michigan - 2:15 p.m. - PAC 12 Network

NCAA Football: Rose Bowl Game-Penn State vs Southern California Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Sam Darnold enters this season with a lot of expectations. After exploding on the scene last season, Darnold is the early favorite to be the first player selected in the 2018 NFL Drat should he choose to enter the draft. First things first, and that is having another productive season to backup his work from last year. Darnold has great pocket awareness and is one of the most accurate passers in college football, placing the ball where only his receiver can catch it. Even with his unorthodox release, If Darnold continues where he left off last season and leads the Trojans to the College Football Playoffs, it will be hard to believe he wont be a Top 3 pick in next year’s draft.

Josh Allen - QB - Wyoming at Iowa - 9 a.m. - BTN

NCAA Football: Poinsettia Bowl-Brigham Young vs Wyoming Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

There is a lot to like about Josh Allen. He has the size and physical traits that evaluators and scouts seek in a quarterback, and yet he has fantastic straight line speed to extend plays. In addition, when the pocket breaks down, Allen finds opportunities to avoid pressure, and put himself in a position to extend and make a play. Allen will have his first stiff test on Saturday when his Cowboys visit the Iowa Hawkeyes. I expect Allen to have a big year and place himself in prime position to be one of the top 5 players in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Lamar Jackson - QB - Louisville at Purdue - 4:30 p.m. - FOX

NCAA Football: Louisville Spring Game Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

Lamar Jackson is fun to watch…period! His highlight reel should continue to grow this season, and even this week as the Cardinals visit the Boilermakers of Purdue. Jackson will need to show scouts and evaluators his pocket presence and the ability to make clean passes and be more accurate with the football. If Jackson can improve as a passer he can only boost his draft stock and value.

Luke Falk - QB - Washington State vs. Montana - 7:30 p.m. - FS1

NCAA Football: Washington State at Arizona State Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Falk returns to school this year as he continues to wreck havoc on PAC 12 defenses (or at least most of them). This season I hope to see Falk read the field and defense with improvement. I am concerned that Falk is in an Air Raid offense which has not gone well for recent rookies in the NFL (I am looking at you Jared Goff). Still though, Falk has incredible arm strength, and can move the chains. His footwork has gotten cleaner throughout his collegiate career. I also appreciate his dedication and leadership that he has developed during his time at WSU.

Deondre Francois, QB - Florida State at Alabama - 5:00 p.m. - ABC

NCAA Football: Orange Bowl-Michigan vs Florida State Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

We shall see as a red shirt sophomore if Francois decides to enter the draft. Barring a sensational season I believe Francois will return to school for another year. One of the toughest pocket passers from last season, Francois has great pocket awareness. His field vision continues to improve, and this could be a breakout season for the Florida State prospect. The offensive line will have to do their part and protect Francois who has took plenty of hits over the course of last season. Francois should have an even more productive season with Florida State.
