Fooch’s update: Full list of cuts here.
The San Francisco 49ers made the first set of roster cuts Friday afternoon, cutting down to 71 players. They have until 1 p.m. PT on Saturday to cut down to 53 players. All cut players will run through waivers on Sunday at 9 a.m (waivers explanation). Players that clear waivers can sign with practice squads starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Friday’s cuts included notable veterans like Matt Barkley and Tim Hightower. It also included Prince Charles Iworah and Will Redmond both getting the waived/injured designation. If Iworah and Redmond are not claimed off waivers on Sunday, they will revert to the 49ers injured reserve list. The team can then either leave them there all season, or work out an injury settlement in which they pay them the number of game checks they are expected to miss. That would then make them free agents.
Here is the full list of roster cuts. I have separated Fridays from what we will see on Saturday. Below that are some useful roster-related links, followed by a stream of Twitter updates.
