Who will start at FS in Week 1?

The San Francisco 49ers have settled on their 53-man roster for the time being, and with it has come some clarity on the depth chart. However, one position that still has some questions is free safety.

On Saturday, following roster cuts, general manager John Lynch told the media Ward’s availability for Week 1 is unknown. Lynch said the situation remains fluid and they just don’t know right now if he will be playing when the 49ers host the Carolina Panthers a week from Sunday.

Given that Ward has not played in the preseason, and only recently returned to the practice field, it’s hard to seem him back in the starting lineup next week. Maybe he proves me wrong, but I just don’t see it for now.

As the 49ers turn toward preparing for the Panthers, I am curious to see who ends up as the starting free safety until Ward returns. Lorenzo Jerome started at free safety the first two weeks, Jaquiski Tartt started there in Week 3, and Adrian Colbert got the nod in Week 4.

Who will be starting at free safety when the Panthers come to town? My guess would be Tartt, but after what we saw in Week 3 with the dime package, I could see Jerome getting some decent time out there as well.
