Andrew Luck still not practicing for Indianapolis Colts

It seems less and less likely he faces the 49ers in Week 5.

The San Francisco 49ers travel to face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5, on October 8, which is a little over two weeks from now. And it would appear the 49ers are unlikely to face quarterback Andrew Luck when that game arrives.

The Colts quarterback will not practice this week, effectively ruling him out for the team’s Week 3 home game against the Cleveland Browns. Luck has not practiced since undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. He was on the PUP list throughout training camp, and while he was activated before Week 1 of the regular season, he remains sidelined.

Luck could very well get back on the practice field next week, but if he does not practice then, I find it hard to believe he plays the following week against the 49ers. He could return to practice the week of the 49ers game, but given his lack of practice thus far, would that be enough time to throw him back into action?

Given how this is progressing, I would not be at all surprised to see the team eventually just shut down Luck for the year. If they can win some games in the coming weeks, maybe they send him back out there. But if they find themselves winless or with only a win or two heading into the later part of October, they might just decide to play for a top pick and save Luck for 2018.

The Colts upcoming schedule includes the Browns this week, and while Indianapolis is hosting, they are underdogs. This is the first time since 2015 that the Browns have been favored in a game sine 2015! The Colts then travel to Seattle, host the 49ers, travel to Tennessee and host Jacksonville. There are some potential wins in there, but the Colts are in a world of hurt for the time being. And the 49ers could find themselves facing Jacoby Brissett in two weeks.
