The Trent Taylor OPI call was trash

And it cost the 49ers the game.

The San Francisco 49ers shot themselves in the foot several times on Thursday against the Los Angeles Rams, but they also suffered from some bad calls by the referees. There will be plenty of time to break down the 49ers self-inflicted issues, but for tonight, I think it’s fair to do a little bit of complaining.

Trailing 41-39 in the fourth quarter, the 49ers managed to recover an onside kick. They got nothing on first and second down, but on third down, they appeared to convert a first down on a pass to Trent Taylor. If the 49ers get the first down, they’d be set up right around the Rams 40, 1:54 to go and one timeout. More than enough time to get into field goal range.

Except the refs threw a flag on Taylor for offensive pass interference. Give it a watch in this GIF.

No other angles were shown, so we don’t have every look. As Taylor comes off the line, we see Nickell Robey-Coleman (No. 23) get his hands on Taylor. It looks like Taylor gives him a little push, but not until after Robey-Coleman had gotten physical after five yards.

Can someone tell me how that deserved a flag?
