NFL Draft 2018: 3 fewer winless teams after Sunday

New, comments

The 49ers are tied for the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft! Never too early to track this, right?

The San Francisco 49ers are one of five winless teams following Week 3 action (with the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys both owning a win going into their Monday Night Football game) and thus far in good position to ... earn the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft!

It’s never too early to start talking draft, after all, and there were a few notable things that happened on Sunday that affected things. Following the first week of action, Fooch posted on the playoff and top draft pick odds, with the 49ers coming in at fourth on the list, ahead of the Houston Texans and behind the Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns and New York Jets.

On Sunday, the Texans fell to 1-2, while both the Colts and the Jets managed to get through with victories, lifting them to 1-2. The Browns played the Colts, and thus are 0-3, just like the 49ers. The Jets were the favorites to land the top pick with 50.2 percent odds, while the 49ers were at 44.2 percent odds to claim that top pick.

Now, of those top five teams, only the 49ers and Browns remain winless. They, along with the Cincinnati Bengals, have the same strength of schedule, while the New York Giants and Los Angeles Chargers, the other two winless teams, have a stronger strength of schedule.

The 49ers have their own first, second, third, sixth and seventh-round picks in addition to the New Orleans Saints’ second-, Chicago Bears’ third-, Pittsburgh Steelers’ fourth- and Kansas City Chiefs’ seventh-round picks in the 2018 NFL Draft.
